I am a size small in most brands, a pretty typical 4. I wear smalls in other cycling shorts. I ordered Medium in these shorts and I'm pretty certain they would nicely fit my 12 year old niece! I put these on and just as expected they were uncomfortably tight on my legs. The waist is doable. So order 2 sizes up.

They looked perfect but ended up being too tight around the leg bands for me, but my legs are a bit large. I am normally a medium to large in cycling shorts and I ordered a large in these. I gave them to my husband and he plans to wear them under his moto pants.(but don't tell anyone). I will order an XL if they are available,
