it pays to be smarter than the pole By Talkeetna Tom from Talkeetna, AK on 09/14/2009 Pros: Easy to adjust, Good grips, Lightweight, Strong Best Uses: Backcountry skiing, Backpacking, Car Camping, Day trip, Hiking, Mountaineering Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Having used this same locking mechanism since the mid '80s in adjustable ski poles, I understand peoples irritation. You need to take these apart on a regular basis and clean and LIGHTLY!!! lube the spreader shaft(not pole shaft). By slightly bending the pole when tightening, you can get a very secure lock. Also, tighten regularly as you're walking. I have had zero trouble with mine and I find this locking method to be superior to others over the long term.
Thanks for a great product.
