My son ended up with a heavy back pack but was able to
"carry the load". He hiked with his troop up the White Mts in New Hampshire. This was his first "serious" hiking trip. He did well. We were able to stow his gear without problems. We had to pack for T' of 20'. The pack was very adjustable.
