Sierra Trading Post Launches #CarpeDeal Giveaway on Twitter, Facebook

CHEYENNE, Wyo., October 26, 2009 - Since announcing the formalization of its social marketing channel and naming an official director of said channel, Sierra Trading Post is exploding onto the social media scene with a new giveaway: #CarpeDeal or "Seize the Deal."

Sierra Trading Post is asking customers to tweet or post "#CarpeDeal" whenever they find a great deal at SierraTradingPost.com. Tweets/posts are judged on creativity and frequency, and rewarded with free gift cards and product packages. Sierra Trading Post hopes to expand its social presence and reward customers for promoting the company - all at a fraction of the cost of traditional marketing campaigns.

"#CarpeDeal is about snagging great deals, and passing those deals along to friends through today's fastest-growing social networks. The concept of using a giveaway to promote word of mouth advertising is not new, but putting it into practice on social platforms is," says Naomi Berg, social channel director for Sierra Trading Post. "Participating on Twitter and Facebook has the potential to bring us closer to existing customers, reach new people, and give fans and followers a chance to get free stuff!"

"We're likely to see many more [of these types of campaigns] in the coming months simply because they work and the formula is easy to repeat. Hot giveaway + Twitter + hashtag = trending topic," writes Jennifer Van Grove in Mashable's Top 5 Twitter Trends to Watch.

Many retailers have experienced stagnant growth in traditional marketing channels due to a turbulent economy. Just as it once stretched beyond its catalog roots to enter the e-Commerce arena, Sierra Trading Post will continue to creatively deliver its message of "Great Deals. Great Brands." through the economical platforms of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, with continued focus on its own active lifestyle blog: Blog.SierraTradingPost.com.

Giveaway winners will be announced through Twitter, Facebook and on Blog.SierraTradingPost.com.

CHEYENNE, Wyo., September 28, 2009 - Sierra Trading Post, multichannel Internet and catalog retailer, announces the addition of new functionality to MyUpdates, a personalized product search tool that allows customers to receive customized updates when new or replenished merchandise is available at SierraTradingPost.com.

The initial phase of MyUpdates allowed customers to subscribe to categories such as outdoor gear, shoes or other product genres and be notified by email when new or restocked items appeared. Customers could also request email notifications for specific brands such as Oakley, Ecco or The North Face. Recent enhancements to MyUpdates allow customers to be notified when special colors, sizes or keyword designations become available.

Since the economic downturn, 40% of consumers have been spending more time comparison shopping online for discounted products (mr.pricegrabber.com, March 2009). With consumers becoming more and more web-bargain savvy, Sierra Trading Post's improved MyUpdates search options put the online discount retailer ahead of the game when catering to proficient web shoppers. Sierra Trading Post's precise product update options help to reduce the time consumers spend searching online to find bargains, and offers them a faster way to find what they need. And, with Sierra Trading Post's constantly changing inventory, it's a great way for customers to stay up to date on their favorite brands, styles and products.

Sierra Trading Post voted #1 for "Outdoor Clothing, Gear" in NRF's "Favorite 50" Online Retailers list

CHEYENNE, Wyo., September 21, 2009 – Sierra Trading Post, a multichannel retailer, was recently voted #1 for Outdoor Clothing, Gear; #39 overall in the Favorite 50 Online Retailers list published by the National Retail Federation.

The Favorite 50 is an annually published list of customer-ranked eCommerce websites in the U.S. – 2009 marks the third iteration. The list appeared in the Sept. 2009 issue of Stores Magazine.

"The fact that SierraTradingPost.com was recognized more often than any other website [in the category of outdoor clothing and gear] is an indication that today's economically minded consumer knows where to turn for top-quality products at prices few retailers can match," says Andy Newlin, director of eCommerce for Sierra Trading Post. Price factored heavily in the results. In fact, 74% of consumers polled rated price a "5" on a scale of 1 to 5 (5 meaning "very important").

As one of just a handful of newcomers to the list, Sierra Trading Post recognizes that reaching today's savvy consumer means constantly revaluating your marketing and business strategies to meet customer demands. "…industry graveyards are littered with the bones of those who tried to dictate to shoppers rather than listen to them. Most are willing to concede that it may be time to once again tweak the definition of retailing," writes Susan Reda, executive editor at Stores Magazine.

"We will continue to focus on improving the service and convenience of both our website and other channels in order to create a customer experience that is unforgettable, each and every time," says Newlin.

This year's Favorite 50 results were generated by BIGresearch. The Ohio-based firm polled 8,635 consumers who answered two open-ended, write-in questions about online shopping: 1) What website do you shop most often for apparel items? 1) What website do you shop most often for non-apparel items?

Sierra Trading Post Named in "Healthiest Companies in America" Awards; Embraces Population Health Management

CHEYENNE, Wyo., July 29, 2009 – Multichannel retailer, Sierra Trading Post, was recently named "Most Improved" in the "Healthiest Companies in America" awards. Illinois-based Interactive Health Solutions (IHS), a leading provider of turnkey population health management programs, names the winners annually.

According to IHS, the "Most Improved" awards go to companies that have made the greatest improvement in their employees′ health, based on annual improvement of IHS scores.

"This is exciting news. We instituted wellness screenings three years ago with the understanding it takes time to see changes, so for us to see these results and receive this award is phenomenal," said Robert Koehler, director of Human Resources for Sierra Trading Post.

Health care costs are skyrocketing each year, so companies like Sierra Trading Post are embracing Population Health Management – a clinically based preventative care process that stresses early detection, testing and aggressive follow-up on health risks. A 2007 study by Zoe Consulting, Inc. showed that, for IHS participants, the actual medical cost growth rate was 54% less than the medical cost growth rates for non-participants.

In partnership with IHS, Sierra Trading Post employees were recently asked to participate in the annual onsite wellness screening. For the first time, Sierra Trading Post will use the data to launch wellness initiatives throughout 2009, beginning with a "Know Your Numbers" information packet and quiz. Other activities include helping employees log a three-day food diary, as well as a "Couch to 5K" challenge and an initiative focused on staying fit and healthy during the holiday season. Sierra Trading Post also offers employees membership to a local fitness center at a significantly reduced rate. The company will cover the events of the wellness program at Sierra Blogging Post: http://blog.SierraTradingPost.com.

"With health care costs taking an increasing percentage of our bottom line, we had to do something to encourage our employees to take ownership for their personal health. The results from these screenings will help us target general areas of opportunity with our newly assigned wellness coordinator," said Koehler.
