| The spirit of Sportif was born the very day John Kirsch began selling tennis shorts out of his station wagon in San Diego, CA. By 1968, Sportif had introduced the first ever stretch fabric into the outdoor and boating industry. After that, the innovations just kept coming. Sportif was one of the first outdoor apparel companies to use Gore-Tex® and sun-protective fabrics, soon becoming a premier manufacturer for companies like Eddie Bauer and L.L. Bean. Establishing Sportif as an independent label and recently launching two new lines has made the company a brand in and of itself.
