Complicated, but worth it By stshopper from NYC on 08/17/2008 Pros: Adjustable Watchband, Good Quality, Reliable, Stylish Describe Yourself: Athletic, Practical Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I read all those reviews about how complicated this was. Yes, it has lots of features. I upgraded from a simple heart rate monitor and am happy I chose this one. A friend from the gym uses it and told me it will take about 1 month to master. I think that's definitely worth it for all the great features - hr max, calories, zones and cumulative totals. I think it's fantastic! It doesn't take a genius to figure it out. The user manual is clear, although the buttons aren't intuitive, so you do need to read it. It's not rocket science. I say go for it!
Stopped working completely after 2 runs. By jambandfunkyparty from Warrenton, VA on 08/13/2008 Pros: Adjustable Watchband Cons: Band Breaks Easily, Drains Battery, Unreliable Best Uses: Staying in the box Describe Yourself: Athletic, Ultramarathoner Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I am training for a 50 mile trail race and needed a new HR monitor. This was a good price and a reputable company..i gave it a shot.
Out of the box, i took it on a 15 mile trail run. The clasp for the watch band fell off 3 times. On my next run, the ENTIRE watch stopped working about 10 miles into my run. I was not happy.
Signed up for the warranty on the Suunto web site but this website is not considered a reputable dealer..so repairs are going to cost me MORE than i actually paid for the watch! No thanks. My advice, if you are an actual athlete...do not buy this product, stick with a Polar or a Garmon.
Great Value for the Price By Peanut Butter Addict from Deerfield, IL on 08/11/2008 Pros: Adjustable Watchband, Reliable Cons: Face is easily scratched Describe Yourself: Athletic, Practical Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I was glad I read the reviews first, because the watch is bigger than it seems in photos. The bright white face is about 1.75in (4.2cm) in diameter and about 0.5in (12mm) thick. On a more petite frame, it will be big and bulky. The plastic face is easily scratched, particularly if you're not accustomed to a watch this size.
Once you play around with the programming, you get the hang of it. It seemed very counterintuitive at first, namely because I was accustomed to my Timex Ironman. The chest strap works great without needing to wet it down first, and the average heart rate, alarmed zones, and calories burned are great motivation.
Highly capable training monitor. By Stressman from Silver Spring, Maryland on 08/06/2008 Describe Yourself: Athletic Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a very capapable unit. I have been using it for lap training, and the heartrate and timer are great for performance evaluation. It does take some time to set it up. I did have to carefully read the sometimes obscure manual to figure out how to make it work.
Great but dead batteries on arrival.... By Charlie from Townsville, Australia on 07/31/2008 Describe Yourself: Athletic, Modern, Practical Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I love this watch, its great, BUT- the batteries on both the watch and the belt monitor were dead on arrival- meaning I had to go into town and buy 2 more... and there are marks on the pink band that do not wash off in water. This leads me to think this was a display model or second hand. Apart from that the watch itself is great. Despite other comments- I find Suunto gear to be easy to use and practical- as I have owned a few of their dive computers. This is no different- in fact- its very user friendly. The belt is comfy- so much so I never know I have it on after a while. So yeah, if you dont mind the second hand nature, you will enjoy the watch!
Great watch, lots of features By garfieldne from Mpls, MN on 07/22/2008 Pros: Adjustable Watchband, Good Quality, Reliable Describe Yourself: Athletic, Modern, Practical Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I can't say anything bad about the watch. It has a lot more features than I need but for the price it was a great deal.
By bleto from Tucson on 07/21/2008 Pros: Adjustable Watchband, Good Quality, Reliable, Stylish Describe Yourself: Athletic Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I really like the styling/finish of it.
By Skye from Upstate New York on 07/13/2008 Pros: I never got it working Describe Yourself: Athletic, Practical, Stylish Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Although the manual is detailed, I spent more than an hour experimenting yet could not figure out how to set even the time feature, let alone proceeding to enter body weight and other key data. One of the reviews I read on the site had forewarned me, but I thought I would be smart enough to figure anything out. I was wrong and am returning the product.
By brainmapper from Annapolis, MD on 07/07/2008 Pros: Adjustable Watchband, Durable plastic, Large script Best Uses: Everyday, For cycling, For running, Monitor heartrate Describe Yourself: Athletic, Like what works, Likes simplicity, Practical Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: In terms of preparation, it is simple to put on, adjust, and go. I like the watch strap (on the green watch) in that it can be adjusted for small wrists (notches go all the way to the watch). The script and numbers are easy to see because they are somewhat large. The displayed data seems to be accurate, which is a big component in training. Beeps are good per training zone, keeps training within limits without having to look at the watch extraneously. I haven't had it long enough to check for wear-and-tear over time, but will continue to use it and see how it goes.
Thanks!
