NEVER HAD A BOOT FOLD THIS WAY.
By MJ from Vancouver, BC on 06/16/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Professional/Guide Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I first had a pair of Alico boots in the early 90s and they lasted me several years. These boots are great in all conditions on everything from foot paths, cliffs and scree (they are great to scree ski in)
For me the break in time wasn’t that long or pain full I just wore them around camp for a few days first and they were fine. I always have two pairs of socks on with a thick wool sock over a thin inner sock. You can always adjust the fit with different combinations of socks.
I have been looking for a pair of boots like this for a while and jumped at the chance to own them again. They feel great and I’m going to get a spare pair so I will be set for years.
I recommend these boots without any hesitation if you need a real back country hiking/packing/climbing boot.
By Scouter Dave from Damascus, MD on 06/10/2008 Pros: Durable, Great Traction, Non-slip sole, Stable Best Uses: Backcountry, Cold weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too big Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Very long break in period
By Otto the outdoorsman from Tupper Lake, NY on 06/03/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Non-slip sole, Stable Cons: Heavy, Not Water Resistant Best Uses: Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too big Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great all around boot. It took me about 2 weeks to break them in, and i can wear them with any sock, low-cut or wool. If you are looking for a light-weight pair of boots, these are not the ticket. they weigh a lot, but once you've worn them, you dont notice it.
I would buy this product again and again By Advid Adventurer from Abigndon, VA on 06/03/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Great Traction, Non-slip sole, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Backcountry, Cold weather, Day hikes, Everyday, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These boots provide great support and look sharp. Would recommend them to anyone.
classic, comfortable, enduring By Billy from Grand Marais, MN on 05/30/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Non-slip sole, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Backcountry, Everyday, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: They are not for those who do not appreciate quality, classic looks, durability, or a good hand-built such as Whites, or Hathorne. These are my third pair, they never really wear out, I just prefer to have a dry, broken in pair ready to go. Have worn them everyday, to the Rodeo, Yellowstone, the Arctic Ocean, and everywhere in between.
By alwayslost from Minnesota on 05/30/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Non-slip sole, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Backcountry, Cold weather, Day hikes, Everyday, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Boots like these are unsurpassed on every level in my opinion. The big hurdle you have to get over is breaking these things in. Once accomplished, you have custom fitted footwear that pretty much eliminates foot fatigue and injury. I have been using a similarly constructed pair of Asolo Yukons for the past 10 years for medium to heavy duty hiking in all seasons and conditions, as well as all kinds of outdoor work. They remain in excellent condition, without any kind of preventive care at all. I just got these Alicos, which expect will be the same, if not better. The fit is definitely better in toebox room and tongue construction, at least for my feet. In order to accelerate break in, I was told by some "old timers" to hike through a rainstorm until the boots were completely soaked, and then keep walking until they dried on my feet. Not a pleasant experience, but seemed to be effective. The whole process took about 2 months of intense use. I don't recommend these if you don't put on very many miles. If you do, once you break these in and get yourself warmed up, the best simile I can think of is that it's like a rocking chair for your feet.
By Charlie from Upstate NY on 05/11/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Good shank, Great Traction, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold weather, Everyday, Wet Weather, Work Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is my second pair of these, for work! I inspect bridges, towers, and dams for a living - lots of walking around on rough, rocky, woodsy, wet, steep terrain, and climbing on structural steel. I learned long ago that well-made heavy hiking boots like these are FAR superior to even the best made-for-work boot. I should know: hiking, backpacking, climbing, and caving are among my hobbies. I have not tried backpacking with the Alicos - but they should do fine. Images shared by: CharlieTags: Picture of Product, Using Product
By buckmaster from nj on 04/18/2008 Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Very sturdy and old school...but they are so heavy i am beginning to wonder if some of the newer style boots are the way to go....I plan on using them on western rifle hunts where i carry a pack..but they seem a bit cumbersome for bow hunting
